London Plane Serving Bowl

London Plane Serving Bowl

This simply designed serving bowl has been hand-turned from a solid piece of London Plane. It has been finished in Danish oil for a subtle sheen whilst also being food safe.

The bowl has been turned to have a lovely, slight 'tub' shape with a thicker, weightier base. This makes the bowls lovely to hold and sturdy on the table.

The London Plane, used for these bowls, was a tree felled in Notting Hill, on the site of a monastery. It was only felled because the tree was causing damage to the church, not intentionally for timber. London Plane is a beautiful wood which has a striking 'tiger stripe' pattern running through it - it really is unusual and is an item you would keep for a lifetime.

Useful as a fruit or salad bowl, or equally beautiful displaying treasured items on a sideboard or dressing table. The deep rich colour of London Plane sits particularly nicely with mid-century furniture such as G Plan or Ercol sideboards.
